Leadership Lesson | Active Listening by Casey Cleveland

Pastor Casey Cleveland, a co-laborer in Christ from The Avenue Church in our area here in Delray Beach, Florida shares what God has been teaching him about active listening. “I’m not sure what would be more important than to be able to hear, discern and then follow the voice of the Lord.” This is a powerful message on how to proactively listen to the Lord and listen to others, based on the framework of Love, Know, Speak, Do.

Patreon Interview with Rodney Wilkinson | The Process of Assessment

Pastor of Gospel Fellowship, a part of the Acts 29 Church Network in Boynton Beach, Florida shares  about the process of assessment for a person who feels called church planting. “We want to see churches planted, but we also want to see healthy church planted. We don’t want to see a guy walk into a situation that he is not equipped for.”

One Piece of Advice | Find Someone You Can Talk To by Kiesha Wilkinson

In this episode we hear from Kiesha Wilkinson who with her husband Pastor Rodney Wilkinson, planted Gospel Fellowship in Boyton Beach, about the importance of having someone objective to talk with. Kiesha and Rodney have just launched their new podcast, Married In the Middle where they discuss married life in the thick of it, seven to 25 years. You can find their podcast at www.marriedinthemiddle.com

Recommended Book | Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools by Tyler Stanton

This book inspired me to pray more! It is not just principles or theory, it is filled with practical application of what Tyler has learned in his personal journey with the Lord. “When it comes to prayer, God isn’t grading essays, He’s talking with children.”

Leadership Lesson Podcast: Season 3 Episode 4 - Mental Health

Pastor Daniel talks with Bryan Saylor, Young Adults Pastor at Calvary Chapel, Melbourne, FL and cohost of the podcast Thought Life with counselor Crystal Turman, about the subject of mental health. God has placed the highest priority on what we do with our mind. When Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, He answered: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37) What does it mean to be mentally healthy and how can we deal with the issues surrounding mental health? How have spiritual disciplines helped maintain good mental health? What about the stigma of mental health treatment? An open, honest and compassionate discussion about a timely subject.

QUOTES: “Mental health is understanding that we are body, soul and mind and trying to get all those things under the submission of Jesus Christ.” -Bryan Saylor

“Your beliefs affect your body.” - Daniel Williams

“We are wholistic beings and the things that we do actually have an effect on each other.” -Bryan Saylor

“We are literally addicted to our phones. That can be such a huge cause of anxiety and can lead to negative mental effects. Purposefully disconnect from that.” -Bryan Saylor

“Silence and solitude is forcing myself to get out of that rat race.” -Bryan Saylor

“People come to us for crisis management. I’m always trying to point them to Jesus.” - Daniel Williams

S2.E12 - Loving The City

May 6, 2019 EEleaders

EE Leaders | Leadership Lessons Season 2 Episode 12 - Loving Your City

Casey Cleveland, Lead Pastor at Avenue Church, Delray Beach, FL, talks about what it means to love your city, and how they do that at Avenue Church. (But first, he shares the story of how he and Pastor Daniel met and the impact that had on him and his church. God is at work!) One of the tools Avenue Church has used in loving their city has to do with math, where “a hundred is greater than a million.” Jesus operated His ministry this way, pouring Himself into the 12 disciples. Delray Beach, like every city, has its own unique diversity, and Avenue Church has been trying to love people where they are and to create a family within that group. Using Paul Tripp’s 4-Circle paradigm of Love, Know, Speak, Do, Casey explains the approach they have used in connecting with their community. ‘Keep giving them Jesus.” This is 18 minutes of godly wisdom and it’s pure gold.

QUOTES:

“This has been our guiding principle…as Jesus was sent, so He now sends us.” -Casey Cleveland

“How did Jesus love the world? The first thing He did was enter the world…We try to leave our own world and enter the world of the city.” -Casey Cleveland

“Our first move here in the city has to be an outward move.” -Casey Cleveland

“We want to lovingly apply the gospel to their area of need as we speak the truth to them.” -Casey Cleveland

“We commit to the process of change which is often slow and super messy.” -Casey Cleveland

One Piece of Advice | Connecting People to God

Vince Putnam, Senior Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Delray Beach, FL, shares his one piece of advice: Teach and unpack every part of the service every week planning on a person who is in a church for the first time. Vince came to this understanding through a unique approach to inviting people to attend their service. What they said radically changed the way Vince teaches.

“Out of 50 or so, I got one person to say they would come back. The why nots were basically they couldn’t connect with what was happening. It wasn’t meaningful to them.” -Vince Putnam

“It was a real dagger to the heart, that what we were doing on Sunday morning was not connecting God to a person who had never been in the church before.” -Vince Putnam

“We started thinking through every part of the service…and teaching into those things and unpacking them so that people could experience those things in a meaningful way.” -Vince Putnam
